As a gay teen of the 70s and 80s, he repeatedly cited both Reagan and AIDS as being his main concern. He also exhibited large amounts of self-loathing for being homosexual (this would later change). Glenn would run in 1985 at 17, turning 18 after his election, for City Council. Interestingly, a board member claimed that this was actually a manifestation of his grandfather's bitterness following his loss in the 1979 polls. Unfortunately, the poor 18-year-old would lose the election, placing 4th of the 5 candidates and netting 7 percent of the votes. He decided to take it on the chin and attend George Washington University in 1990, graduating with a B.A. in philosophy.




Glenn would try again at politics, this time a lot more embarrassing. In 1990, Glenn Greenwald was forcibly removed by deputy sheriffs from his city council's podium following a tirade of questions towards the mayor. Greenwald claimed that the meeting times made it unavailable for working citizens. As he was being dragged off, Glenn yelled, "This is not a dictatorship; this is a democracy!" Glenn Greenwald would then file a lawsuit against Abraham Hassing, a 71-year-old candidate, claiming that he was violating election laws and therefore running illegally. Glenn was forced to pay $700 in court fees following the lawsuit. The judge ruled in favor of Hassing.

Before the election, Glenn Greenwald, 23, had asked the court to prevent the city from putting Abe Hassing`s name on the ballot, claiming Hassing`s candidacy was illegal because he served on a city board and received a salary for his work. Election laws say that anyone who receives a salary for his work on a city board must resign before running for political office. City code said Hassing`s position was voluntary and his reimbursement was for expenses.

The judge ruled Hassing`s candidacy was legal. Hassing later won the March election.

And very sadly, Glenn lost the election. He earned 842 votes, which was not enough to beat out the other candidates. He did not run again. Glenn decided to attend NYU and graduated with a law degree in 1994. Supposedly Glenn helped repeal 1992 Colorado's Amendment 2, which denied municipalities from passing legal protections for LGBTQ members. He was cited in an article about protesting the Colorado law lawfirm Arnold & Porter, leading the NYU Gay and Lesbian Students in protest. Here he is speaking about it almost 2 decades later.

Law

Glenn Greenwald joined Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz, a law firm based in Manhattan. He worked there from 1994 to 1995. He would later leave the company and start his own firm, "Greenwald Christoph & Holland."

It was reckless, he admitted; he had no idea what he was doing. There were times when he thought about going back. One of his first solo cases — "shitty cases," as he calls them — was representing a Wachtell Lipton partner's secretary who was fighting with a neighbor who had accused the secretary of having an affair with her husband. Greenwald represented the secretary and sued the neighbor for defamation, and the case settled.

"She ended up paying money that she didn't really have," he said. "I feel guilty about that to this day. I so excessively litigated it. I was just, like, drowning this poor woman with all kinds of legal papers."

He took up some notable cases in his early years. One was Scanlon vs. Kessler, a copyright dispute between a gay-sadomasochist activism group and a photographer named Gil Scanlon. Very embarrassingly, Glenn submitted an affidavit giving $245 as his official hourly rate. The defendant's counsel argued that it was unreasonable, and the judge agreed. Felting Glenn for overcharging.

Plaintiff's counsel, Glenn Greenwald ("Greenwald"), submitted a sworn affidavit claiming a rate of $245 per hour. Defendants argue that the rate charged by Greenwald is excessive and unreasonable. The court agrees. The court finds it patently unreasonable that an attorney who has only been admitted to practice law since 1995, with little experience in the area of copyright litigation, can demand such an exorbitant rate. Nothing in Greenwald's affidavit or reply papers justifies such a rate.

Matt Hale was denied his request to the Illinois State Bar due to his previous statements on niggers and kikes. Alleging he had knowledge of the events.

Funny enough, Matt Hale went shopping for Jewish lawyers and found Alan Dershowitz, but the price was too high. So he hired the much cheaper Glenn Greenwald instead. Glenn publicly commented about the victim's families who filed the lawsuit that, "I find that the people behind these lawsuits are truly so odious and repugnant, that creates its own motivation for me." The magistrate judge's opinion, Anderson v. Hale, 202 F.R.D. 548 (N.D.Ill. 2001), thoroughly details the factual background, so we only summarize it here. Defendants' counsel recorded telephone conversations with various third party witnesses, *1117 without disclosing to those witnesses that they were being recorded. Counsel and his tape-recorder were both in New York. The witnesses, at least some of them, called from Illinois. Plaintiff moved to compel disclosure of these tapes, arguing that this conduct was unethical and therefore vitiated any attorney workproduct privilege that may have attached to these recordings, and sought a protective order prohibiting any further recordings. The magistrate judge granted both motions, finding defense counsel's conduct unethical under two separate rules: Local Rule 83.58.4(a) (4), prohibiting "dishonesty, fraud, deceit or misrepresentation;" and Local Rule 83.54.4, stating "a lawyer shall not ... use methods of obtaining evidence that violate the legal rights of [another] person."

Seizing the opportunity, Defendants’ counsel hit the record button and commenced surreptitiously taping the conversation with Dippold. The conversation lasted for some time, covering in detail Dippold’s contacts with Hale, the WCOTC, and various other parties having an interest in the underlying litigation. Dippold never asked if Defendants’ counsel was taping the conversation. Nor did Defendants’ counsel make any representations to Dippold suggesting that the conversation was or was not being taped.

The denial of Matthew Hale’s application to practice law in the State of Illinois embodies the most egregious – and most dangerous – constitutional abuses which have, again and again, been resoundingly declared by courts in this Nation to be patently unlawful. In sum, Hale, a well-known and vigorous advocate of racist and anti-Semitic ideas, was barred from the legal profession and denied his livelihood because the individuals sitting on the Committee of Character and Fitness for the State of Illinois happened to disagree – strongly – with Hale’s political and religious views.

Here's the first paragraph in Glenn's filings to appeal the Illinois State Bar's denial. ARCHIVE. The appeal was largely unsuccessful and denied a multitude of times in different courts. Unfortunately, Matthew would receive a felony charge for trying to have a hitman kill the judge. The hitman he spoke to was an undercover FBI agent. When you recount the story of how you met your spouse, many would find it impossible for their loved ones to get any detail wrong. This website was a lot more public, as it was exposed by our friends at the Dailymail. Jason Satchel and Glenn Greenwald ran Master Notions together, and one of their clients was Peter Haas, who ran Hairystuds. They had a 50% split deal on the profits in exchange for publicity and marketing. The deal soured, and Peter refused to pay any money.

A nasty legal battle ensued in which Haas also accused Greenwald and Master Notions of taking his client list to market their own videos via 'hairystuds.com.'

The case was settled in 2004 after Greenwald was able to contend that Haas didn’t have a real client list to steal, and that Master Notions had assembled its own by 'reviewing clubs, groups and chat rooms on the Internet and on America Online, which are geared toward those with an interest in adult videos.'

This became the source of a lawsuit between Masternotions and Peter Haas. The claim about the stolen client list is unfounded; I have no clue if this is true or not.

The two parties settled. Glenn claims that this is following a threat to expose Peter for faking his emails. More on that later.

The case was settled in 2004. In a post on The Guardian website Wednesday, Greenwald said the deal came after he “threatened to retain a forensic expert to prove that the emails were forgeries.”

“The producer quickly settled the case by paying some substantial portion of what was owed, and granting the LLC the rights to use whatever it had obtained when consulting with him to start its own competing business,” he wrote.

PeterHaas also claimed that Glenn used the email "DomMascHry31" to bully and harass Peter.

He also accused Greenwald of having bullied him into signing the deal, citing several twisted emails that he said were from Greenwald, whose email address was, “DomMascHry31.” In one, Greenwald allegedly called Haas “a little bitch” and “a good little whore.”

Greenwald said those emails were “completely fabricated” and “not written by me.”

The success around the story led to Glenn writing a book about Snowden and his motivations.

What other prizes did our boy win? Glenn and his husband became a target of the government. On the 18th of August, Dave Miranda was held under detention at Heathrow Airport. He was held under Schedule 7 of the Terrorism Act 2000, which provides police officers with unique powers to examine people who pass through the United Kingdom's borders.

Glenn Greenwald has been known to engage in sock puppetry. Going all the way back to the Blogspot days, when bloggers posted their political takes to whoever would listen. Glenn's public fallout with Patterico is well documented, and I have included an incredibly detailed write-up by the man involved going over the different posts and evidence. But all you need to know is that Glenn is Ryan, Ellison, Thomas Ellers, Wilson, and Rick Ellisburg.

All of these accounts shared similar IPs or writing conventions. I've decided to compile the worst of these sockpuppet accounts. On the blog RightWingNuthouse, Rick Ellisburg posted comment after comment defending Glenn Greenwald's name.
