is Elvis being forgotten?

I rarely post in the music section because I'm not that interested usually--I listen to music, I don't obsess over the history.

But recently I was curious. Growing up I had heard that Elvis was "the King." So I knew who he was. However, my parents (who were big into music) never liked him all that much, and to be honest the songs I've heard from him didn't sound that good.

But what has caught my mind recently is it seems like I hear about the Beatles, who I think are from the same time frame, a lot. Like, it seems like just coincidentally I hear people bring up the Beatles and their history and influence so often. But Elvis? The last time I heard about him was in an episode of Penn and Teller: Bullshit (their Bible episode, if you must know) and the movie Bubba Ho-Tep. And those talked more about his personality and lifestyle more than his music or lasting influence.

So like, what's the deal here? Is there some active push? Is Elvis a person whose life was more interesting than his work? Or is it just that since I don't hang out in music circles, I naturally don't hear about him all that often?

Thanks in advance.

Good. He was a shit human being. He married a child, and would make his friends kneel and kiss his ring. He was one of the first pop culture idols, and wasted no time becoming a fat glutton. He even tried to get the Beatles deported. The only good thing to come out of Elvis' existence is the cinematic classic Bubba Ho-Tep.

There was that biopic movie in 2022, it made quite a bit of money and got 8 Oscar nominations.

They were technically alive at the same time for a while but they are not at all from the same era of music. Shit was happening fast back then, Elvis peaked in the 50's and the Beatles were big in the 60's and 70's. And then Elvis died fat on a toilet in 77.

His greatest legacy is being the go-to guy to represent entertainment or more specifically music in various entries in the Civilization series.

The Civ II manual showing portraits of famous leaders in history with their names captioned below throughout, and then a picture of Elvis captioned simply as "The King" as the last one you see, will always make me chuckle though.

Elvis was a good performer, but he wasn't a song-writer and his shit wasn't "ground-breaking". You can go back to shit like The White Album, Sgt Pepper etc and it still sounds very modern, same for Pet Sounds and Beach Boys. Elvis feels like you're listening to 50's and 60's music, Beatles' stuff after Revolver sounds pretty modern still (imo).
