Extra Credits - leftie gaming channel that had two of its members accused of "misconduct" in only 2 months

Extra Credits did it to themselves by trying to politicize their content when their own fans did not want it
More than that I think their relative decline is due to actually better people making much better videos that are more deep, long and well-researched. Their oversimplification and cute artstyle was probably enough to get viewers when nobody was making stuff in that niche but their audience probably grew up and outgrew their content. I don't think they branched out because they saw it coming but I'm sure they continued doing it because they realized they didn't have the goodwill or authority that they once had.

EDIT: and even on the political front, I don't think they'll be very appealing to the woke crowd because there are far crazier creators with more social cred and victim cred than them.

I know this is small beans, but when I said
"and I don't think it's too optimistic to say it has a chance of breaking 50k, showing at least, they have loyal subs, or pull a good amount of people for a channel their size."
I meant 100k views rather than a number they already broke lol.
(btw they didn't break 100k as of this post)

It's pretty sad that this is what happens when you search them by name.

I will say this might be due to YT algorithm fuckery, back when the Quantum TV drama was at a all-time-high, if you searched him up you'd only get channels talking about him for pages before his actual channel appeared.

Though this is honestly a pretty tame way for a channel to "die", I don't think I've seen more than maybe 1 or 2 channels actually retire, most just stop uploading after a steady decline in views, and some just vanish after causing a shitstorm, in particular, I remember some chick did a video shitting on lolicon and calling everyone pedos and stuff, and then that got people so mad they dug up so much shit on her she vanished a few vids later.

Still, it's pretty incredible that their gaming stuff is now totally dead in the water in comparison to before.

Cross posting this with the magic thread.

They are WAY optimistic about battles. This whole thing sounds like it was written for them by MaRo and is more on theory than execution.

I'd just like to take note of this specific excerpt from their Henry Ford video they released yesterday.

Huh, so a corporation using their mass wealth and social power to force those who work for them to submit to their subjective standards even when off-duty is... bad? Weird, I was informed it was the other way around.

Well it's only a problem for them when the person in question is white, Would be fun to see them make a video about people like Michael Jackson's father that abuse the people that's making them money.

I was thinking that it would be a “It’s okay when we do it“ kind of thing, but knowing these kinds of videos, I don’t think EC never knew what a hard day’s work sounds like if most of their revenue from their videos decides to up and disappear out of thin air.

Not giving the protagonist as strong a reason to start the quest and something about not telling us the protagonist’s origins
I'm no author, but that's a shit checklist; there's an entire genre of film of men with no name. Sometimes all the hero needs to be is in the right place at the right time. This just means your story is probably going to be very small in scope; only a handful of days if that, few locations, simple motivations (greed), etc etc. That doesn't make it a bad story, just a relatively simple one, because not every story needs to expand on a person's history.

And call me crazy, but some asshole shooting me and dumping me in a shallow hole is motivation enough. My name isn't important, what is important is what I'm about to do... And I always wanted to die violently.

Or however that goes.

Last week, EC released another seemingly contentious video regarding video game prices being cheaper than ever, specifically when factoring in inflation of the US Dollar. Although the video is nowhere near as egregious as their infamous videos about how 'Playing Nazis in video games promotes fascism' or 'Evil fantasy races perpetuates real world stereotypes', it still has a some folks mocking EC for coming across as tone-deaf toward consumers.

It also doesn't help that their original presenter had made a video about this topic 6 years ago, arguing that AAA games should not all be priced at $60, even with inflation being factored in.

The reason why it's so hard to swallow the idea that games are cheaper is because from a quality assessment they are NOT. Considering triple A today to be of the same quality as triple A of 10-15 years ago is the same as considering a pure wheat loaf the same as one filled with sawdust. I don't want the next soulless sweet baby inc shit with the most expensive graphics engine I've ever seen that my PC can barely run. I want an experience on par with the first time I picked up Dark souls, Minecraft(Not triple A I know) or Fallout new vegas but this industry shits out trash "experiences" that pry my wallet open every chance they can. Since I'm going on the comparisons to the soviet state this is the same industry killing it's older titles by making them no longer available via "remasters" made with horrifying AI slop, or simply shutting down authentication services to get to said games. I cannot wait for a crash, I don't pirate and only buy on sale because I'm poor I do so because it's not worth it anymore.

They really are the dullest knives in the drawer.
What annoys me about channels like these is that they have their heads so far up their own asses when they release videos covering contentious topics, yet aren't looking to have further discussions about it or reflect in any way. It's understandable if they want to stand by their position, but it always just feels like they want to make a (rather weak) point about a subject or issue and then plug their ears, lumping any kind of criticism with online harassment and bad faith arguments.

Games are objectively cheaper now. I get that modern AAA games suck, but it's just true that online downloads have broken the market wide open compared to the GameStop days. It's fair that gamers want to be angry but it's a complete circlejerk to claim that sales, subscriptions, and piracy haven't had a huge impact. Part of the reason AAA games are so much worse now is that the market is so much more competitive. Big games are completely sink or swim, because there are more releases competing for attention every year, so companies focus-group them to hell and back and try to sell them to non-gamers to carve out a less competitive niche.

Honestly, I think a lot of the angriest gamers don't actually play that many games. There's good indie and AA shit released constantly, and you can play it for cheap instead of buying Suicide Squad and bitching about it for months. I quit gaming recently because there was too much good stuff, and it was eating my life away.
