Update on the Oblivion Remastered body type to sex mod. It looks like Nexus gave up and let one of the uploads stay up, but they disabled comments on it and put up a huge message basically admitting the content of the mod doesn't violate their policies but they blamed others being "political" about it and "inciting drama" as to why they were deleting previous uploads and are locking down any discussion on it.

I've nooticed. Even as far back as games in the late 2000s you can find lines removing references to gender to get rid of sExiST SteReOTyPeS, and it's only gotten worse with time.

This reminds me of the Scottish prison warden in Great Ace Attorney who has a comically thick accent to the point it's not funny and just impedes understanding the text.

This is the kind of stuff that made me start learning Japanese to override the middleman.
Currently, around the N4 level, I am having a lot of fun learning a new language.

Being frank, I don’t mind adding British accents to differentiate characters' voices, as long as they're comprehensible and fit the character of course (exceptions apply to jokes in the original about incomprehensible accents), but that Mexican-English accent is stupid for the same reasons why it's stupid in real life.

My only experience with Dragon Quest is that I played the first 4 games in Japanese recently. But everything I've seen about the English versions of DQ games comes off as extremely pretentious on the part of the localizers. Like these games are pretty charming all on their own without needing to jam in a bunch of overwrought accents and medieval-sounding dialogue, and they change the names of EVERYTHING for literally no reason.

I especially hate this interview exert I saw where the head translator for some of the DS games acts like the guy who created Dragon Quest and writes all the games is being unreasonable for wanting to have input on what the English version is changing.

And from what I see from the DQ fan wiki, it looks he went behind Horii's back and changed the horse's name anyway. What a fucking douchebag. And Honeywood is a guy people will dick suck when it comes to English translations, but everything I've seen of him makes come off as one of those assholes who claims credit for being the real reason people outside Japan like the stories to games he's worked on and not what the original Japanese writes wrote. He also translated Final Fantasy IX, and what I've seen of the translation of that game is awful.

Having seen a fan localization of Dragon Quest reduce the text to almost Dick and Jane reader level, I am more than fine to play the official localizations. Then again, I find challenging text fun and love Irvine Welsh's novels because of it.

I can read the accents, and with enough time, most people will figure out what's being said (at least in general) but should they have to do all that?
You could reduce a Scottish accent to its most easily understandable, which is a bit tough considering it’s Scottish, and non-intrusive characteristics (to > tae, no > nae, not > no', etc. but not "dinnae", it’s too far from don't, maybe a don' could work) and then use typically Scottish vocabulary like "lass", "ken", and so on, and you'd have a perfectly acceptable line of dialogue that anyone could tell is meant to be read in a Scottish accent.
You don't need phonics that just muddle the text with what look like nonsense words at a glance, it completely messes up the flow of reading.
Edit: to specify further, you don't need "doon", "noo", "hametoon", or whatever. Nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs are key to comprehension and should always be readable at a glance. A person can guess "tae" means "to" based on context clues, but can they always do that to mucked-up nouns? I very much doubt it.
I recently played SMT Vengeance and they added zoomer skibidi meme shit to almost all of the the demon negotiation dialogues.

The female demons are particularly bad, half of them literally call you creepy or an "incel"

Demons have acted like that for so long it’s hard to tell what's localization and what's in the original.

I don't know what the game with the big bow orange haired girl is, but the change in dialog is actually more sexist than the original. It implies the other girl likes doing stereotypical woman's work like laundry with that "Perfectly folded clothes" line. The wording is also really awkward for both lines. It's a fart huffing mess. These translators probably all wish they were novelists getting their purple prose turned into movies.
 
There's a localization that lives rent free in my head, which comes from a game called "Yu-Gi-Oh! The Duelists of the Roses"

It's no secret that Yu-Gi-Oh censors their cards for international release. it's either because of booba, guns or religions symbols.

But in The Duelists of the Roses, EVERY monster card has their own unique 3D Model, so not only do they have to change the art internationally:

Dark Magician Girl is an simple example where they just edit the textures to cover the clevage part, no big deal all things considered.

But sometimes there's a need to go a little further and beyond, with cards like Petit Angel, where they have to add an entire different "crown" model for the attack to work.

Speaking of Censorship, the Japanese version has some weird "censorship" themselves due to some cards being literally impossible to be translated 3D-wise

Or at least, turn her into more of a fish-esque creature, which ironically makes it less lewd compared to the US version.

I just really love this localization mainly because I find it cool that they bothered doing this, they probably could've just use the censored model in all versions and nobody would really minded it. But if you're a kid and loved playing the card game, seeing your favorite monster have an accurate 3D model and seeing them attack would probably be one of the coolest experiences of all time.

It's Fire Emblem Engage. The English script goes way out of its way to try and remove even the most subtle hints of sexuality, romance, or even comments about physical appearance from all of the dialogue. And since the game is total weebtrash where the cast fawns over your self-insert and you there's many you can choose to get with romantically, the result is complete retardation.

The Yu-Gi-Oh! games on the late GBA and DS do that and use the censored Western card art across all versions, and it's kind of annoying if you're playing the Japanese version. They started doing that with the Nintendo handheld games because they're supposed to be totally compatible with each other across all languages because they were used in official video game tournaments that were held alongside the normal TCG world tournaments from I think 2003 to 2011.
