[July 2025] DSP threatens detractor channels with implied legal and financial repercussions

Creating a thread for this, in case something actually happens around this subject, and to keep clips, information and the discussion surrounding it at least a bit centralized.

After being away from streaming for a week, of which he refuses to explain the reason to anyone, DSP came back on July 12th and immediately put out a statement using vague lawyer-speak, stating - among other things - that "as of today detractor channels are being recorded" and "soon their content will be mine", basically implying he's collecting evidence for a future lawsuit or legal precedent.

It seems to be inspired by Ethan Klein's (from H3H3) lawsuit, who - as of June 2025 - is suing three content creator for copyright infringement, who outright and publicly stated they re-streamed Ethan Klein's content to mess with his income. Content he made sure to register with the US Copyright Office before releasing it.

That doesn't work that way, unless no transformative-content is added.

They are covering a topic (him), getting footage from the source, but then adding their own commentary, insight, and other media in the process. That is arguably protected under Fair Use depending on the 4 factors.

Just because the topic was on halt/he was absent, it doesn't mean he owns the footage of those who cover it. Like someone making videos on an upcoming series having to stop, because the series' new episodes are not out yet, does not prove that they don't own their content.

But even humoring him, we could apply his flawed reasoning to his own reaction videos, which by the way, are barely any transformative.
