the demon that comes when you call its name.
first, hi! i'm either a reactionary, a bad faith actor, a chaos agent, or a "miserable c-nt" (your words). figured i would say hi.
first: is it cool that you just throw slurs at people you don't like? i thought yall were supposed to be progressive and equitable. does that go out the window when someone you don't like is around?
second: what is it, in particular, that you didn't like about my cohost opinions? you claim here that "oh, if they were a USER, then their opinion might have weight"; i was a user of cohost, but you still didn't like my opinions or insights. at the end of the day, though, i was right: cohost is dead, and for reasons i opined that it would die. how do you reconcile that against your current stance?
third: one does not need to be a user on this service, to interact with this service. case in point, before responding to your stewards' inflammatory threads on your service, i attempted to find context for the things i posted. katja can even show that i attempted to search for the very things i was looking for and found nothing. "this software is bad!" wasn't me making things up, it was from difficulty in finding things. hell, even this thread, named after yours truly, required someone else to link it to me, because it wasn't showing up in any of the recent conversations (despite happening AS WE WERE YELLING AT ONE ANOTHER.)
if a user tries to look at your site, sees that finding things or conversing is difficult, and doesn't join, does their opinion just no longer matter? if your choice of platform actively turns people off, do you just get to write all of that off as People We Dont Like?
fourth: what lessons from cohost did you learn? you wrote a whole bunch of words about how "cohost had whiteness problems because it started from a foundation of mostly tech white people ... website league is started from mostly early cohost people ... can we learn from cohost's mistakes", when (at first glance) it appears that all of those same mistakes are being made:
starting with a heavily white, techie userbase
ignoring outside criticism that you, personally, disgaree with
taking criticism personally and attacking the person, rather than engaging with the actual issue
what of these have you improved? just from interacting with you, i have had SEVERAL of your "stewards" -- the people supposed to be guiding this operation -- personally attack me. for the crime of having an opinion that your admin attitudes were bad (see the rest of this thread for examples), or that your software choices weren't good. i've had the very stewards on this site completely misconstrue my opinions ("better make everything ourselves and pay ourselves $5 salaries to appease a very important wiki owner", things i never said), among others.
how can any of you claim to be providing a better experience when you so eagerly disprove it in the face of even one stiff breeze?
even now: where's the "yo, we're sorry that we went ham". the only thing i've seen so far is no less than three fucking threads from you folks about me, personally, in addition to alyaza's slur-filled screeds earlier. hell, even alzaya's "i'm going to log out for three days" thing didn't even last a full day!
everything i did, post the first mild criticism, was in response to things you did. where is any sort of culpability for that?
or are we already in the "i don't want to bring up what this person is doing that is harmful, because they're a big important person who works on a lot of infrastructure and i don't want to make people Uncomfortable"? because that's something i'm deeply familiar with too, and it looks like this "flat" system is having the same problems.
feel free to dismiss it all as bad-faith shit tho, its what you do best. didn't save cohost, wont save you.
(for the record, i liked cohost. i posted a lot of things about my projects and disassemblies there, because it was a nice experience, just one i saw as terminally flawed, and which ended up being terminally flawed no matter how much the other side called us unfuckable cretins or miserable c-nts. you would do well to heed those lessons.)
