It's a GUNDAAAAAAAAM. Your general Gundam natter thread!

I watched twice and now after thinking a little better I know what happened. It was the same as Unicorn for me. They manipulated me emotionally even when it was kinda pointless. But at least Unicorn had grace.

And one of the aspects of it was the music itself. Not the thousand idolshit songs that were used through all episodes but the ones made by Tomino himself.

It was brilliantly packaged food that when you eat it and think about it, it was just devoid of any flavour. Except it has a little vit of the flavour that you remember (0079), but the main content is shit (original GQX stuff).

And then they dont jump the shark, they make Shuji vomit all the exposition in one go. Why build a mystery over who Shuji is and how he thinks in previous episodes when you can do it in the finale? Why write him as a human when you can write him as a messenger of the Gundam?

And why insert multiversal universe creation to Lalah of all people? I never felt like Unicorn did went that route like many did, now this shit... Unforgivable.

Fuck this finale and fuck the mav battles, fuck you enokido and fuck you tsurumaki.

I'm glad that I was wrong about few things in GQux, I'm not gonna bother complaining much with new types space magic. Overall, I still like GQux while G-witch is just no.
At least, Rose Lalah gets her fan fiction "saved"/"approved" and most people get their happy ending. Chalia is still the man til the end of the show and not having stupid or lame death. Xavier gets to shine near the end very nice.
That whole Char, Lalah and Amuro fight in new animation is neat.

Annqi is now an expy to another Gainax work. Grandis Granva from Nadia.

I understand that because this is Gundam and especially ties into UC79, having love triangle with common tropes from some shoujo as one of main part isn't great for long-time fan expectation.

Sooooo, I got to finish G-reco TV series version. I'd say it leaves a more positive impression to me than Brain Powered.
First few episodes despite feeling kinda slow but oddly busy, lots of characters and terminologies. Some don't get explained much later into series or just skim through at very early small part into episode(s).
Pacing settles down around Nick Klim introduction. I thought I'd hate him, but he's one of the few I like. Although, maybe half-way into the series where G-reco story become more solid, around where Pirate group and Capital Army going to space. So before that I feel few characters kinda act over dramatic, Bellri over his instructor death, Luin being a ragetard at every fight. Maybe also where everyone has to do space-trash collection.

Pirate crews are somewhat too friendly to suppose "captured prisoners", but then again they are loyal to Aida rather than Ameria and technically they act on self-defense most of the time. A lot of characters are despite from different factions, but "obviously" not necessarily fully loyal to that faction due to differences in belief. Bellri and his adopted mom towards Capital Army, Aida and pirates toward Ameria, G-IT tech and portion of Venus Globe towards Towasanga. And the whole upholding taboo code/religion thing, people are eager to be "friendly" during diplomacy or face to face despite really trying to murder each other in mobile suits fight beside Bellri.
I don't really have that issue with "switching sides" that people complain?

Final episode is definitely eh though. Nope, 2/3rd of episode has fight, so last 1/3rd is just rushing everything is at peace now. It's "alright" considering old "warmonging" people or high ranking commanding officers are dead (stupid and lame way or offscreen), so no more worry.

Most annoying parts are when characters or Bellri keeps talking about taboo and how other mobile suits engagement violating the taboo. Not like the show really expands the taboo law that much. Some of mech designs (G-IT, Towasanga, Capital Army) are ugly. What is with Mack Knife? It's like a shitpost design. I really like the designer, Ippei, in G-witch like Darilbalde and Dilanza. So G-arcane, space Jahanam and Hecate are good to me.

What a waste of the Zabi family, their fate being more or less the same.
I would have preferred if they destroyed Earth for real to force the Newttypes to evolve and shit and shift the season to postapoc, but there wasn't any time for plot development.

And this is a bad thing, because her true actions after the war were much more humane and true to her nature: she becomes a doctor.

In the GUC she's a pilot (she's the one piloting the white MS at the Battle of Sodon). Char remarks on this, and it's established in the last episode as well where she's in the ship that distracted Char, leading to his death in that timeline.

There's still Garma and Dozel's daughter, and some other random Zabis hanging around.

In any case, this being a Gainax production, there won't be a sequel or movie. That's what Gainax does. They blueball you after convincing you the narrative is actually going somewhere.

I did like Char staying true to form and rocket launching Kycilia's face into oblivion though.

I feel like all the references undercut the "just move on from the past and be yourself" seems really counterintuitive when there's also lavish shot-for-shot recreations of scenes from the original series and lots of obscure references to the novels.

I'd rate GQ a 3.5 outta 5. Closer to a 4, if only because the visuals and production value carried it hard for me. The new cast needed more time to get their groove. The setting and technical details were more fleshed out than the characters and some plot points feel just nonsensically rushed.

It's one of those things where I can tell I'll like it more in SRW or something, where the characters will have more room to breathe.

This show was so fucking shit. If they just want to sell more UC-brand toys, then just make a bi-annual Unicorn movie. What the fuck is taking Hathaway so long?
They actually talked about Hathaway 2 at a shareholder's meeting this week. Basically, they're running out of competent animators.

Gquux was underwhelming. It never capitalized on any of it's strengths and the ending was confusing gibberish.

Shuuji wants to kill Lalah to stop her being hurt when her pocket universe fails is okay but the RX-78-2 was badly used. Shuuji's best weapon is the Gundam hammer and he uses the beam saber instead. When it grows big it looked like Shuuji could manipulate the dream and it's never used again. Was it based on Gundam Breaker's boss battles? Shuuji should have upgraded the Gundam into different suits Amuro used to kill Char, it would have been a good excuse to animate some MSV material.

Nyaan has no personality and betrays everyone she meets. She is a blank slate who is easily manipulated by basic kindness. Machu should never trust her. She is the worst Gundam character ever, making the idiots in ZZ look well written.

Challia turning on Char felt like needing a way to get Char away from Shuuji and nothing more. Challia had no reason to kill Char, Char was working with Machu and trying to get rid of Lalah so the universe didn't collapse. Challia had achieved his goals and then turned on Char just to give Char someone to fight.

Xavier is the best character in the show. Side material needs to tell his story and expand on it.

Amuro being in the Gundam was weird. Amuro is autistic and distant even to his love interests. Unless Lalah's version of him is different to the real one he never would have hugged Machu.

Sayla leading zeon is fan service. If Sayla was already lined up to control Zeon then Char isn't a threat and Challia can mind read newtypes so he would know Char planned to find the real Lalah and get a discount on her services.

The finale was bland and it felt like a half baked Evangelion. Opening the Gundams mouth and making it roar didn't change the power level. It had it's weird shield bubbles but it was underwhelming. It needed more weaponry for the battle and it's limiter should have been protecting a much stronger mode.

The series is too bland to recommend unless you're a hardcore UC fan and want to see the alt timeline. Other than Xavier and Challia there's nothing of substance here and they go under used.

If Psycho Gundam's music is a reference to Super Robot Wars then I think it's more likely to be a reference to giant MS in games over a couple of bad animation frames.

The QUALITY Gundam might be a stretch, but I was right on the money with the Hyper Leprechaun comparison.

god that giant gundam was so fucking dumb.
I came into this wanting to see an interesting zeon run world and instead i just got references to better shows. The things I wanted to see of this new world all just got shoved to the corner to make room for mastubatiory bullshit while the main characters just attached them selves to others over and over to shield the fact they are as hollow as an 80s model kit. Lollipop's character is I want to protect hobo after just meeting him, now I want to protect lalah after having a single conversation with her.
The thing that sticks out to me the most is how little consequences any thing had. Hobo kills the milf, no one cares or reflects; Machu steals all the money from her team, none of them are even seen again till a 2 second shot at the end; not psycho gundam presumably kills thousands and destroys a good chunk of side 6; also never returned to again; characters are deemed terrorist or join the zeon military, they just casually leave to chill on the beach ignoring the thousands of people they killed; half the cast tries to kill each other, eh it's no biggie dude I'm just going to see if that Indian I never met will be a mother of me.
All in all there was some stuff I liked about gqu^7x but all in all I thing the best way to describe is a mess. There can be some cool stuff in mess, things you really like, but when it's just aimlessly in a pile on the floor they're hard to appreciate.
Also am I naive or could the screaming gquacks be an ideon reference? Ugh I know it's probably just another fucking eva reference, well eva did take it from ideon so technically it could still count as an ideon reference

If you look at Gquuuuuux as a kinda-sorta adaptation of the original Mobile Suit Gundam novels, it makes sense, what with Amuro dead/missing/psycoframe ghost and Ramba Ral surviving to serve a Zeon government that's implied to be more benevolent than the previous rulers. As someone who didn't read the novels, most references like Challia being a more important character and Kyciilia's flashback to the Deikun children and wanting to be a mother just flew over my head.

In short, this show is a weird 0079 anime/novel hybrid and the producers want you to see both.
