It's a GUNDAAAAAAAAM. Your general Gundam natter thread!

Started watching Gundam 00, only a few episodes in but pretty decent so far, I like how there's more of an emphasis on geopolitics and international intrigue. Main complaint is the Gundam designs are kinda bland (non Gundam mechs are much cooler than in Wing though).
Also can't help but notice Setsuna seems to be as much of an abrasive autist as Heero was, is this a common theme with Gundam protagonists?

Wait till you get deeper in. Also Setsuna gets memed because of the "ore wa gundam da" line he says. Personally i love 00 despite its flaws and hopefully youll enjoy it as well.

Most Gundam heroes are autistic but in different ways. Setsuna, Mika and Heero are the brooding autists with death wishes. Kamille, Kira and Amuro are the shut in nerdy autist who can't relate to normal people except their sort of girlfriend babysitter.

Garrod, Judau and maybe Slut from Witch are the exceptions. They're happy, cheerful characters who push forward even if they're stupid.

Gundams strength comes from the side characters being as strong or better than the lead. Setsuna is bland but Lockon, Tieria a Alle are all popular characters with a story more interesting than Setsunas.

Reading more Zeta novel and Rosamia turns up in the Gaplant. She's too brain washed to understand real combat isn't the same as the simulator and is shocked when Char and Kamille react fast in unexpected ways. The Federation / Titans keep using old models and sent out Zakus with the Gaplant. They aren't described as upgraded in any way, bog standard Zeon Zakus. The Federation in this is just a front for the Titans to bleed dry. Zeta TV series made it sound like the Titans were a tumor. This makes it sound like the Federation nothing but a Turkish barbers.

Hyaku Shiki gets more attention than the MK-II. It's always written about well and described as being faster and better than the MK-II. Char is the main character even if it tries to follow Kamille. They only ever call him Quattro in conversation, the novel never tries to make the Quattro persona a legit identity to the reader.

Kiwibros what the fuck did i just watched? what the fuck is that ending in Gcucks? like im not complaining in fact it was cool but damm never in my life i would think they would do that in Gundam in general. Very Evangelion-like. Question for the UC enjoyers: the timeline being changed drastically does any of the remaining UC series/ spin off can happen or is it a complete clean slate?

I think GCucks is just meant to be its own thing, separate from the rest of UC, so the UC we know can keep trucking along.

It's a Unicorn sequel meant to push sales of DVD and gunpla backlog. It can't be separated because there's a tangible link between it, the massive sales boom spawned by Unicorn, and the UC NexT initiative to make Unicorn sequels for the rest of the 21st century and erase CCA, F-91, Crossbone and Victory from continuity.

They already erased Char's Counterattack and nobody cared.
But CCA has such an iconic scene with people joining together to push the colony away despite meaning their deaths. Such a beautiful image of humanity potential should they work together.

Im not the biggest UC fan but that scene has always stucked with me.

Yes but now we can shoo out all the normies who refuse to learn Japanese and read a book where a magic fetus takes the life force of every child in the world to pull Axis up from crashing.

Which version of CCA? Latest animated version of that scene in U.C. Engage, Amuro newtype punted everyone off of Axis, so only him and Char die at the end.
They can't erase Crossbone, people will actually riot over that.
Not when Crossbone is getting attention lately from Bandai and the fans right now.

Really hope they'll animate F90FF and Cluster manga where they actually linked whatever shit happened in Unicorn to F91 and Crossbone.

Alright let me shed some light on the timeline.

The big spoiler of everything is that
The UC we know and love is NOT the prime timeline. It's a branch where Lalah was able to save char by sacrficing herself. It adds a interesting layer of context to Lalah watching everyone, especially when Moon Gundam has Char pissed she's not showing up with the spirits of the dead to see him.

Logistically nothing has changed, nothing from the G crux timeline crossed over into Our UC. However, the crux timeline is linked to the prime line. With the creator interviews confirming that the random axis shock events (Zeknova's) are a semi regular occurrence beyond what we see in the show. So there is significant cross contamination with psycoframe tech with occasional random shit like Amuro and Char's suits/souls coming in from CCA (Char technically died when G-Fred got blown up, fulfilling lalah's vision and saving crux char lol)

They might be setting up the sequel to explore a world where char died and never united the world against the titans. Frankly it's just a matter of time before they do a sequel. The studio set themselves up in literally the perfect position to go anywhere and do anything they want. Id like to see the aftermath drama and political shitshow going on with zeon. Artesia still has to deal with the surviving Zabi's and navigate the web she clearly doesn't want to be a part of.

I like the little detail at the end where Char belatedly realizes his almost killed his sister by dropping axis.

Edit: oh and this is funny as shit

Apparently there were like 1 or 2 Gundam series since Witch From Mercury and noone seemed to talk about them. And people only talked about Witch to shit on it.

The ending of Gcucks is it's own thing. It's a UC-AU the same way Thunderbolt, Origin and Doan's island are. They are their own timeline mirroring some of the original UC's characters and story. It doesn't connect to UC-Prime as you would say in comics. Gcuck's sleeping Lalah creating worlds is just in the Gcucks universe and it doesn't mean the original UC is a dream from Gcuck's Lalah.

It has value as a setting for manga and hopefully they will expand on the alt OYW and the clan battle stuff. Thunderbolt, Origin and Gcucks are fine to run along side UC-Prime's content. Sunrise want to expand on their nostalgia UC releases (Unicorn, Hathaway, Doan's island, Origin) and this is what Gcucks was. A short TV series for the original Gundam fans while they work on new TV series for younger viewers (Witch tried and failed. It sold Aerial kits and nothing else sold, so it was very successful at first and after the burst of Aerial kits it tanked). Gcucks is part of the Shin Godzilla, Shin Kamen Rider and Shin Ultraman franchise. Anno wants to make his versions of his childhood favourites and his studio needed a break after the Evangelion Rebuild series. He couldn't fit it in to work as the director, but it was an ideal task for his studio to make a mini "Shin Gundam" TV series to refresh themselves after Eva. Make a name for themselves as more than just "The eva studio" and it gave Anno and his friends a chance to make "Shin Gundam". Sunrise approved of their idea and they make Gcucks, which is a alternative telling of 0079 the same way all the Shin movies are alternative tellings of their own franchise.

Going forward Gundam will be 3 branches.

0079-UC nostalgia. Animated movies of old side stories to appeal to the 40-60 year olds who watched Gundam as children.
SEED projects for the 20-40 year olds who got into Gundam during the millenium and have lots of disposable income or children.
Introduction series like AGE, Witch, Build fighters. More child friendly series trying to draw in fans who wouldn't normally watch Gundam. More childish to get the kits or more gay to get the Fujo/netflix market (Wing and SEED did fine with that)

Gcucks doesn't tie into Unicorn at all. Narrative and mangas are the only unicorn tie ines. They won't erase F-91 or Victory from the timeline. They're trying to fill the gap between CCA and F-91 so they can make more late UC material. Unicorn was always supposed to be a bridge into late UC but it did so well it formed another bubble.

Witch was flavour of the month because faggots pushing the lesbian stuff. It wasn't very good and didn't have a memorable cast so it's fallen away. Normally a series airing will have at least 2 side stories in model magazines and Gundam ACE. Witch only has 1 side story manga. It left no wider impact. Other series will be small side projects like animations from games, youtube only episodes to advertise things like the metaverse Gundam stuff that failed. There's probably more Build fighters on the way once they get Hathaway out the door. The movie's production is delaying key staff from working on other projects. Once it's finished the support studios will be free for smaller projects or full 25 episode TV series again. Hathaway was supposed to be the new Unicorn (movie series for original UC gundam fans) and it stalling has thrown off a lot of Sunrise's plans. Because it's Tomino and made for the 0079 fanbase it can't be abandoned and they will throw everything at it to get it finished.
